MASERATI GRAN TURISMO

The Concept

In 1914 Maserati started out as a racing car manufacturer. Using the chassis of the A6 racing car as a starting point, and as a response to pressures from some clients, at the 1947 Geneva Motorshow the company presented the Pinin Farina styled A6

GranTurismo. It was the first Maserati road car and 58 units were produced. The car was met with acclaim amongst the automotive press for its advanced technical content and its avant-garde styling solutions.

Ten years later Maserati presented its first standard GranTurismo, the 3500 GT at the 1957 Geneva Motorshow: this car transformed Maserati in a road car manufacturer, and production of road going cars took priority over that of racing models. Over seven years a total of 1983 units of the 3500GT were produced.

Following this tradition, and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the A6, as well as the 50th anniversary of the 3500GT, Maserati unveiled its new coupé, the Maserati GranTurismo at the 2007 Geneva Motorshow. The choice of name is not coincidental: the combined forces of Maserati and Pininfarina have once again created a car that can excite and outperform the competition in terms of its design, engineering, and its unique and inimitable style.

The new GranTurismo, continues Maserati’s range renewal programme, which started with the presentation of the Quattroporte Automatic at the 2007 Detroit Motorshow .

The new Maserati GranTurismo makes the most of the experience gained from the Quattroporte in the luxury car segment, and it uniquely interprets the concepts that have made the Quattroporte a resounding worldwide success. The new Maserati GranTurismo and the Maserati Quattroporte share:
• the mechanical set-up designed to offer an exhilarating drive;
• the carefully conceived choice of materials and equipment to provide a high-quality and enjoyable on-board experience;
• a full range of customisation options, so that every

customer can express their own personality and fulfil their personal requirements.

The car’s name defines the concept;: the new Maserati GranTurismo is a

performance sports car, enjoyable to drive, and a car that makes no compromises when it comes to on-board functionality and comfort.
